AMVER
Award
Since
1996 AFRAS has presented an AMVER (Automated Mutual-assistance Vessel
Rescue System) participating vessel a plaque for voluntarily assisting
with a rescue at sea. This award is presented in conjunction with
the AFRAS Gold Medal Award each year on Capitol Hill in Washington
D.C., USA. AMVER is a voluntary worldwide ship reporting system
which is operated by the United States Coast Guard and involves
ships from 143 nations. Each year AFRAS is proud to recognize the
heroism of the captain and crew of an AMVER vessel making a heroic,
voluntary rescue in the greatest traditions of the sea.
