Design Notes:

The AFRAS Logo

The boat in our logo is a copy of the RNLI Arun class, which at the time the logo was created, was the top lifeboat in the world.   The orange is the universal color used by vessels involved in SAR.  The bow wave is indicative of high speed through the water, and the rope (line) around the border is just a nautical touch.  The blue background represents both sea and sky

The Designer

Wayne Spivak has (solo or as a part of the team) designed some of the most widely used web sites in the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary. Among those sites, the Chief Directors' site (www.cgaux.info), and AuxGuidanceSkills.info which promotes articles on Recreational Boating Safety, as well as the International Affairs Directorate web site (www.cgauxinternational.org). Recently published is the National Public Releations web site, which boats an extremely dynamic interface, allowing posting of news items with limited Webmaster participation (www.auxpa.org).

The Concept

The Design concept of the AFRAS site is similar to the USCG Auxiliary International Affairs Directorate web site in that many of our customers are using slow dial-up connections. To this end, I have limited the amount of graphics to enable our entire customer base to enjoy this site, in a timely manner. Our average non-photo page is about 75KB.
