Citizens' Rescue Organization, Curacao (CITRO)
CITRO provides search and rescue services in the waters around Curacao in the Netherlands Antilles . Thanks to the support of the Royal Dutch Rescue
Service (KNRM) it operates a modern, self-righting 30 foot RHIB powered by diesel engines and water jets. It also operates a flat-bottomed craft which is excellent for towing in small fishing boats and recreational craft.
CITRO is made up of forty dedicated men and women who are on call through the local Rescue Coordination Center (RCC) 24/7. AFRAS recently purchased some modern alpha-numeric pagers to be used by these volunteers. CITRO also provides medical advice via radio to ships at using a network of volunteer physicians.
